Chalmer F. Gasson

December 27, 1942 - June 15, 2024

Chalmer Francis Gasson,

Age 81, of E. Park St., Fort Loramie, passed away of natural causes early Saturday morning, June 15, 2024, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton. He was born December 27, 1942, in Frenchtown, a son of the late Chelcie F. and Cecelia W. (Barga) Gasson. On April 25, 1964, he was united in marriage to Linda Kay (Watercutter) Gasson; she survives. Also surviving are four children, Christopher & Victoria Gasson of Fort Loramie, Craig Gasson of Sidney, Chad & Carolyn Gasson of Fort Loramie and Corey & Nicole Gasson of Fort Loramie; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; six siblings: Leona Monnin of Versailles, Almareda Bruns of Versailles, Wilma Didier of Frenchtown, Mary Lou Bornhorst of Frenchtown, Madonna & Fred McEldowney of Versailles and Curtis Gasson of Frenchtown; brothers and sisters-in-law: Ron Huber of Covington, Kathy Gasson of Versailles, Jim Hulsmeyer of Anna, Pat Watercutter of New Weston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Chalmer was preceded in death by his siblings: Luella Huber, Roberta Schlater and Carl Gasson; and in-laws Donald Monnin, Leroy Bruns, Lewis Didier, Jim Bornhorst, Lavern Schlater, Carol Hulsmeyer, Jerry Watercutter, Dorothy & William Brussell and Evelyn & Carl Ahrns.

Mr. Gasson was a 1961 graduate of Versailles High School and served in the Ohio Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserves in the 1960’s. In 2005, Chalmer retired from Stolle Corp. (Norcold/Alcoa Building Products) of Sidney, where he was employed 30 years. He had also been engaged in farming all his working life. Chalmer was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Minster Fraternal Order of Eagles, Fort Loramie American Legion, and Fort Loramie Athletic Boosters & GYM Committee. He enjoyed farming, following the activities of his grandchildren, and adored his cat Fluff.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Fort Loramie with Rev. Aaron Hess and Deacon Paul Timmerman presiding. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fort Loramie American Legion Honor Guard. Friends and family may call from 3-7 PM Monday and from 9-10 AM Tuesday at Gehret Funeral Home in Fort Loramie. Memorials may be made to the Fort Loramie Rescue Squad.
